Washing before eat is not enough!!

In a perspective article of NEJM on Nov.9, 2006 (free full text link:), doctor Maki, from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health and hospital epidemiologist at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics in Madison, addressed that the spinach events causing several deaths earlier this year are related to the modern way
of food production. E. coli of O-157 serum type is the main killer. So, if you want to eat spinach or other uncooked vegetable, washing before you eat is not enough. What can we do?? You may ask. Irradiation by ultraviolet is the recommendation from Dr. Maki.
